    • Here we go

So on the ninth of the month of Av, our temple was destroyed. Happened twice and happened on the same date both times. That's not for another three weeks though, and for that we have to fast a full 25 hours and it's hot and it's torture but whatever we will talk about it then ;)

But, for three weeks before that, the entire city of Jerusalem, including the temple, was under seige. Those three weeks were the beggining of the end, so to speak. And the day that it started, the seventeenth of the month of Tammuz, is today. So we fast to commemorate it. Then, immediately after this starts the three weeks of mourning which correspond to the three weeks we were under seige. In those three weeks, you can't swim, can't cut your hair, men can't shave, and most people don't listen to music either (we do though lol). Those are called the three weeks (very creative, I know). Then, the last 9 days of the three weeks are like the extreme mourning period. (Oh, and in case I wasn't clear, we're mourning our temple, the Bais Hamikdash). OMIGOSH THE KOSHER ICE CREAM TRUCK IS HERE ON A FAST DAY?!?! WHAT THE HECK!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? THAT IS NOT OKAY. Now all my sibs who arent fasting are gonna bug my mom til they get... and she's also fasting. That's not nice of them. Stupid idot. Now I want ice cream...

So anyway. The nine days. (Yes, another very creative name XD) So we are like really really mourning in this time. All the regular restrictions of the three weeks are included, and we can't listen to music, do laundry (you could do it for kids or if it's like an emergency), eat meat, you can't take a really long hot shower. Just like lukewarm/cold (like as cold as you can stand basically) and for as little time as possible. Oh, but we could eat meat on the Shobbas that hits during the nine days, but that's all. And then the last day of it all is Tisha B'av, the ninth of Av, when we fast for 25 hours for our temple. On Tisha B'Av you can't wear leather shoes, all the restrictions of the nine days apply, you obviously can't eat, and for the first half of it you need to sit on a low chair or on the floor. (Unless you can't, like if someone's pregnant [well, if that's the case then said person might not have to fast at all. Ask you're LOR!] or if you're old and have arthritis, or if you're not feeling good...) and for a good chunk of it, my dad doesnt let us watch anything really besides like the news or Dr. Phil. (No spongebob or youtube) cuz we're supposed to be sad. And yeah! Sorry that was so long lol.
