It was dark, and the rain was pouring down in the alley outside of Eastside Mall. The young girl, wrapped up in blankets, began to awake, alarmed her mother wasn't there. She began to softly cry, but it seemed that no one could hear her. She hoped someone would come, but the minutes droned on, and no one seemed to.

Emily walked outside the Mall, carrying a bag with blankets and other supplies for her new house. She stopped when she heard crying. She spotted a small girl not to far away. She walked up. "Awww! What's wrong?" She asked the girl , bending down to her eye level.

She continued to cry, not knowing the woman walking over to her. “N-no m-mommy,” she was able to choke out.

"Oh! I'm sorry! Is there anything I can do?" Emily asked.

She shivered in the cold of the rain. She wanted to say something but it just sort of came out as "Gahhh."

Emily jumped back, worried she had done something. "Oh! Sorry! Did I do something?" She asked. She noticed there to o shivering, and pulled out the blankets she bought. She gave them to the girl.

With the extra blankets, she cuddled and moved around for warmth. She wanted to say thanks, but was a bit too occupied by worrying. "M-mommy gone," she tried to explain, beginning to hyperventilate in nervousness.

"Don't worry! I'll stay here if you want. Everything will be okay!" Emily said , wrapping her arms around the little girl to give her a bit more warmth.

Although she had no idea who the woman was, she cuddled into her for warmth. Perhaps this is when Emily will notice the note attached to the blankets, reading:
This is Hailey Seawall. She needs a home, a family, please take care of her. I won't be coming back, I just can't."

Emily rubbed Hailey's back as she put the note in her pocket. "I'm Emily. How would you like to come live with me? It's very lonely in my house. It'd be so much more fun if you came!" Emily said.

Hailey nodded. "Warm new house," she decided, her shivering calming.

"Great! Anything you want from the mall before we go?" Emily asked.

"Is there food at house?" Hailey inquired, starving.

"Yup! And a nice warm bed! Do you wanna go inside and get food, clothes, and shoes first?" Emily asked.

Hailey nodded, though clothes and shoes didn't seem important to her. She loves being carried over walking, and the blankets were much better than any jacket. But she did want food, so she agreed.

"Let's go! We'll start with food!" Emily picked Hailey up and gave her a piggyback ride to the food court. "Mallowmelt or Custard Bursts?" Emily asked.

"Custard bursts," Hailey answered happily being carried on Emily's back. The mall was bright, and warm.

Emily walked up and asked for Custard Bursts. Once she got them, she brought Hailey to a table and put her down. "Here you go!" She handed Hailey some of the Custard Bursts.

Hailey gobbled them up quickly, goo from the inside of the candies dribbling down her chin.

Emily smiled. She grabbed a napkin and wiped the good off Hailey's chin. She gave her a few more Custard Bursts.

After a while, Hailey was finally satisfied. "Tasty," Hailey said. "Full."

Emily cleaned up their table. "Do you want to go home now? I think I have some clothes that might fit you. My niece outgrew them not to long ago."

"Home," Hailey agreed. "Take me home!" Hailey, being the oblivious small child she was, expected Emily to bring her to her mother's house, and everything would be normal again.

Emily grabbed the bag of stuff she had bought before meeting Hailey. She grabbed Hailey's hand, held her leaping crystal up to the light, and lightleaped them to her house. "Here we are! Your room is this way!" Emily said.

"Because you're going to live with me now! You'll love it! I have a pet Imp, and it's warm and cozy here! And because I'm doing a favor for your mother, I guess. It might seem confusing, but I'm here to help and raise you anyway I can." Emily said, wrapping her arm around Hailey's shoulders.

Hailey nodded, still not understanding fully. As far as Hailey understood, this was another form of daycare, and her mother would come any second. But she never did. "Okay. Can I see my room now?"

"Of course!" Emily led Hailey to one of the guest rooms. "This is your room. And I can change the bed, carpets, wall colors, or add anything if you want. " Emily said. The room had a nice bed with a bunch of pillows and stuffed animals. The carpet was a dark blue, and the walls are a light pink. There were several windows, with light blue and pink curtains. Off to the side, there was a door which led to a bathroom.

"My own room? Woah," Hailey said, looking all around. "Dark...:" she commented, and jumped up, attempting to reach the light switch.

Emily smiled. She grabbed an extra step stool and put it under the light switch. "There! Now you can reach it! Or you could snap your fingers, if you know how to, and it will turn on. " Emily said.

She had no clue on what snapping even was, so she just stood on the light switch, and turned the light on. Then, hailey ran up to the bed, and jumped over the bed, falling into the giant pile of stuffies.

Emily laughed. "Oh no! Where'd Hailey go?" Emily asked. She couldn't even see her through the animals.

Hailey took that as the morning, so she didn't mind. Hailey leaped off the bed in joy. "Now what?"

"Now, we need to put your clothes in your drawers and closet." Emily said, grabbing a few boxes of clothes.

Hailey looked at the boxes in disgust. None of it looked like her style, at all. None of it was very fashionable. "Those are mine?"
