It was dark, and the rain was pouring down in the alley outside of Eastside Mall. The young girl, wrapped up in blankets, began to awake, alarmed her mother wasn't there. She began to softly cry, but it seemed that no one could hear her. She hoped someone would come, but the minutes droned on, and no one seemed to.

Emily walked outside the Mall, carrying a bag with blankets and other supplies for her new house. She stopped when she heard crying. She spotted a small girl not to far away. She walked up. "Awww! What's wrong?" She asked the girl , bending down to her eye level.

She continued to cry, not knowing the woman walking over to her. “N-no m-mommy,” she was able to choke out.

"Oh! I'm sorry! Is there anything I can do?" Emily asked.

She shivered in the cold of the rain. She wanted to say something but it just sort of came out as "Gahhh."

Emily jumped back, worried she had done something. "Oh! Sorry! Did I do something?" She asked. She noticed there to o shivering, and pulled out the blankets she bought. She gave them to the girl.

With the extra blankets, she cuddled and moved around for warmth. She wanted to say thanks, but was a bit too occupied by worrying. "M-mommy gone," she tried to explain, beginning to hyperventilate in nervousness.

"Don't worry! I'll stay here if you want. Everything will be okay!" Emily said , wrapping her arms around the little girl to give her a bit more warmth.

Although she had no idea who the woman was, she cuddled into her for warmth. Perhaps this is when Emily will notice the note attached to the blankets, reading:
This is Hailey Seawall. She needs a home, a family, please take care of her. I won't be coming back, I just can't."

Emily rubbed Hailey's back as she put the note in her pocket. "I'm Emily. How would you like to come live with me? It's very lonely in my house. It'd be so much more fun if you came!" Emily said.

Hailey nodded. "Warm new house," she decided, her shivering calming.

"Great! Anything you want from the mall before we go?" Emily asked.

"Is there food at house?" Hailey inquired, starving.

"Yup! And a nice warm bed! Do you wanna go inside and get food, clothes, and shoes first?" Emily asked.

Hailey nodded, though clothes and shoes didn't seem important to her. She loves being carried over walking, and the blankets were much better than any jacket. But she did want food, so she agreed.

"Let's go! We'll start with food!" Emily picked Hailey up and gave her a piggyback ride to the food court. "Mallowmelt or Custard Bursts?" Emily asked.
